H&F NAVIGATOR

Short-term Master’s Project – CAD Class
Design Challenge : Imagine and design a navigation device suitable for both hiking and flying.
Key requirements : The device must be compact and easy to carry. It should feature a clear, user-friendly screen and simple, effortless controls.

The foundation of my design approach is the symmetry. A symmetrical product allows for greater versatility in how it can be positioned within its support, giving the user more freedom to adapt its orientation based on the situation.

The device is fixed to its mount using integrated magnets. Depending on the situation, the user can mount in either orientation, screen in or screen out.

During flight, a screen-out configuration allows direct visibility when the device is attached to the thigh of the pilot or to a paraglider harness.

During hiking, when mounted on a backpack strap, a screen-in configuration offers better access to the screen when the device is taken in hand. After use, the device can be stored and transported safely, with the screen facing inward for protection.
