Master workshop : Born from a collaboration between Clivet and the Politecnico di Milano, this project challenged us to design a set of indoor and outdoor air conditioning units with a visual element that evokes the theme "Breathe through design". Clivet is an Italian company specializing in heating, air conditioning, ventilation, and heat pump systems, focused on energy efficiency and sustainable indoor comfort solutions.
My process began with a simple idea: one strong visual element for breathing and airflow, set within a clean, minimal form, staying true to the nature of an air conditioner. I wanted the main visual element to suggest the natural movement of air. I designed a perforated metal surface for the air to pass through, shaped with a gentle, regular wave, like a curtain flowing in the breeze.
A LED strip integrated behind the front panel provides visual feedback to the user. The blue–orange ratio indicates whether the temperature is being increased or decreased, while the intensity of the white light surrounding the panel reflects the ventilation power.
My project was selected by Clivet to be patented, prototyped, and exhibited at the Milan Design Week 2025. The result is an air conditioning system crafted entirely from recycled aluminum, designed to be both eco-friendly, high-performance, with a refined and contemporary design.
